Soft food or hard food? or both
Do you think soft food (canned or packaged) or hard food is better for cats?

My 1 cat does not enjoy soft food- I have given her several different kinds and brands of it- The other loves it.

So 1 of my cats gets both soft and hard and the other only hard.

What about your cats?

RE: Soft food or hard food? or both
I have asked many vets this very question, and I always get the same answer. They say hard! So I asked why, and was told because of their teeth. Cats like Dogs teeth can get VERY bad, and the hard food helps keep the plaque off their teeth. Plus it helps their teeth stay strong. I was also told wet or canned food can be given as a treat or if you have a malnourished cat or dog, you can give canned food with hard food to help boost its health and help it gain weight.

My cat refuses to eat biscuits and will rather starve than entertain the thought of them LOL

I never thought about the plague on their teeth- I know a lot of vets say dog biscuits will get rid of this- I can't see a cat eating a biscuit.

The cats get more hard food than they do soft.

My cats are on IAMS hard food, they love it and they are doing well health-wise. I have heard different opinions on hard vs. canned food, some people swear hard food is damaging, others point out that it is good for the teeth. The shelter I've been to has all their cats on hard food, only sick ones are getting some soft food to be nursed back to health. I think it's a good way to go.

Mine get hard dry food with plenty of water. I've tried to treat them to soft foods and they don't seem to like it. Now, I haven't offered soft food to the kitten yet, but he might like it as a treat now and then as he has a big interest in human food. The girls though could care less about human food at all...they act like they want a taste, then once given, they turn their noses up at it.

I give my cats dry food and on special occasions they will get some wet food. They do not get it too often because I was told by our vet that it is not nearly as good for them and the dry food.

RE: Soft food or hard food? or both
[My cat nearly always eats dried food. He will only eat Royal Canin tho, no others, and usually only Fussy cat variety or Fit 32. He will only lick the juice/gravy from canned food.
He won't eat treats either, only 'Thrive' dried 100% chicken (expensive)
and high in protein. (he was a stray cat too, we took in as a young (8 weeks) kitten.
He recently went missing for 3 weeks, so i'm feeding him the juices from any wet food, (as he's lost loads of weight) and still the dried.
Even when starving and found by a family, they told me on the phone, he wouldn't touch the wet food.

Some cats are like that. I have 3. One that eats mostly wet food. One that likes a bit of both and one that eats mostly dried food. Meal times are just a case of banging your head against a brick wall and hope they get what they want.
